Gravity Well

A small orbital-mechanics puzzle game. Demo's been on Steam since 24 May 2020 — built for Steam Game Festival: Summer Edition. Delayed but not forgotten — full version returns after AE ships.

Behind the demo

The story so far.

After the Brackeys 2020.1 jam, the studio was excited to turn the prototype into a proper game. A Steam Game Festival invite dropped in the middle of that excitement, and we pushed to ship the demo for the festival window — that build went live on 24 May 2020.

Then progress slowed. The mechanic itself worked: multi-body orbital dynamics across several planetary bodies, with fluid dynamics calculating how each puncture in the suit shifts the astronaut's trajectory. What we didn't have was a game. No story arc, no meaningful progression, just an endless set of puzzles with no shape around them.

Over the next few years we returned to it several times — new features, new ideas, more polish on the existing systems — but never an answer to the underlying question of what kind of game it should become.

In 2024 we built Archeological Emergency for the Brackeys jam (one-week format), and that week's prototype already felt closer to a finished game than Gravity Well ever had. We switched focus to AE and committed to shipping it first.

AE is nearly done now — the full gameplay loop is in place, waiting on the last art assets to wrap. After that, Gravity Well comes back into focus, with two years of design experience the studio didn't have the last time we touched it.
